Cement is a carbon-intensive industry. We have therefore integrated a low carbon strategy into our business roadmap to address SDG 13 (Climate Action) based on COP 21 of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

We are currently in the advanced stages of re-validating our SBTi targets to align with a 1.5°C trajectory; reinforcing our commitment to accelerated decarbonisation and long-term net-zero ambitions.

 

We have increased our internal carbon price by 3x, reflecting a stronger commitment towards decarbonisation. Going forward, a shadow price of USD 30 per tonne of CO₂e (CO2 equivalent) will be applied to evaluate investments and capital expenditure, enabling informed decision making.


We contribute to the climate actions by integrating low carbon strategy and scaling up investments in the development of innovative products and services, improving energy efficiency, increasing the share of renewable energy and by switching from fossil fuels to alternative fuels and through increased production of blended cements.






Key Achievements

  • Increased Internal Carbon Price (ICP) to USD 30/tCO₂e, reflecting a stronger commitment towards decarbonisation
  • Met our EP100 target of doubling energy productivity in 2024, well ahead of the target year 2035.
  • Gross Scope 1 CO2 intensity has decreased to 578 kg/tonne of cementitious products in FY26 (a 19.28% reduction from base year 2017)
  • Significantly increased our renewable energy capacity by 36% and WHRS capacity by 18% in FY26 over FY25.
  • Our green power capacity as of FY26 stands at 1,804 MW, with 1,390 MW of RE capacity and 414MW of WHRS capacity,
  • UltraTech achieved a 35.8% share of green power in its total power consumption.
  • The Company has been collaborating with The Department of Science and Technology (DST), Ministry of Science and Technology along with IIT Madras and BITS Pilani, Goa campus to develop indigenous Carbon Capture and Utilisation-based technology for accelerating decarbonisation. The project aims to establish a carbon capture plant with 1 TPD capture capacity, integrated with an existing cement plant, and mineralisation and curing strategies to utilise the captured CO2.
  • UltraTech entered into a collaboration agreement with the Institute for Carbon Management (“ICM”) at the University of California, Los Angeles (“UCLA”) to pilot a groundbreaking new technology: the Zero Carbon Lime ("ZeroCAL"). The ICM has developed ZeroCAL technology to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from cement manufacturing. Usage of the ZeroCAL technology can eliminate nearly 98% of CO2 emissions associated with limestone calcination in cement production. UltraTech will be the first company globally to implement the ZeroCAL process at scale, representing another significant milestone towards its commitment to Net Zero emissions by 2050. The front-end engineering and design of the demonstration plant is progressing as per schedule to enable commissioning at the earliest.
  • Jointly developing a project to implement Coolbrook’s RotoDynamic HeaterTM (RDH) technology in one of UltraTech’s cement manufacturing units.
