UltraTech’s sustainability score on DJSI improves by 15%

UltraTech Cement Limited has registered a significant increase in its score in S&P's Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) by 9 points to 68. This is an increase of 15% from the previous year’s score. It is a key achievement in UltraTech’s sustainability journey.

 

This assessment is for the financial year 2019-20. UltraTech's performance has improved significantly on all three 'ESG' (Environment, Social and Governance) metrics. The key components of our sustainability agenda include Climate Change (Decarbonization), Energy Management, Water Management, Circular Economy and Biodiversity Management. 

 

In the last financial year, UltraTech has made significant progress across all its focus areas of Sustainability. Here is a snapshot:

 

Climate Change Reduced our direct CO2 intensity by 19.14% from the base year of 2006
Energy productivity

Surpassed the goal of doubling the energy productivity from base year of 2010 against the set target timeline of the year 2035

Sourced 14% of electricity from green sources (renewable energy & waste heat recovery systems)

Water Positive Became 2.81 times Water Positive
Circular economy

Became 2.11 times Plastic Positive

Consumed 17.2% of alternative material (industrial waste) as raw material

Sourced 3.7% of thermal energy from alternative fuel

Biodiversity Developed biodiversity management plans (BMP) for five integrated cement manufacturing units
